I’m not a girl mom.
There will be no boho gallery wall.
No blush and beige bedding set.
No matching towel wraps or mini pink fridge.
Just a blue IKEA bag, one towel, and a teenage boy saying,
“I don’t care, just don’t make it weird.”
But if I were a girl mom?
Oh… I would go all out.
Because while the packing list might look different, the truth is the same:
Whether you’re sending off a son or a daughter…
Your heart is moving away.
And the pain of letting go — that lump in your throat as you fold the last towel —
is only matched by the pride that they’re ready to go.
So just for fun (and maybe for those of you who are girl moms), here’s what I’d pack if I had a daughter heading to college:
🛏️ Bedding Goals
- Blush Pink Twin XL Sheet Set — because crisp white + pink is the dream
- Tufted Velvet Headboard
- Coordinating Throw Pillows — for the I swear I study on my bed aesthetic
💡 Desk Accessories She’ll Actually Use (and Love)
🧺 Storage That’s Pretty and Practical
- Matching Fabric Bins
- Underbed Storage
- Rolling Cart — for makeup, snacks, or both
🧖♀️ Bathroom Glam

💬 Final Thoughts
Let’s be honest — she probably already has a Pinterest board for her dorm.
But if I were a girl mom? I’d be right there beside her, matching throw pillows to sheets, picking a dorm theme, and monogramming everything in sight.
But as a boy mom, I’m just over here stuffing a fan, one fitted sheet, and 47 socks into a blue zippered bag…
And you know what?
It’s still an honor.
Because whether they let us color coordinate or not —
we’re the ones packing up their next chapter…
and sending a piece of our heart with them.
